Pas vraiment d’histoire, juste des donzelles qui se tapent dessus, chacune imposant à celles qu’elle a vaincues des traitements peu honorables.

Variable Geo Fighter est le premier épisode de toute une série de jeux de combat en 2D. Sont ensuite sortis V.G Custom, V.G Max, V.G Adventure, V.G Rebirth et pour finir V.G Neo.
Nous avons donc ici affaire à un vénérable ancêtre (1993) et ses deux aspects ont diversement vieilli, le premier (la baston) beaucoup moins bien que le second (le hentai).
Commençons donc par l’aspect « combat ». Nous avons ici le choix entre 6 combattantes qui forment un noyau dur que l’on retrouvera dans les épisodes suivants, sous la même apparence et avec les mêmes coups. Les coups en question sont peu nombreux, et la maniabilité étrange du titre, à laquelle on s’habitue pourtant dans V.G Max, ne passe ici pas du tout. La faute à une animation extrêmement poussive, des personnages rigides et une gestion des collisions parfois limite. Oui, ça fait beaucoup, et il devient rapidement évident qu’aucun amateur de jeux de baston 2D ne retrouvera ici la moindre sensation. Techniquement et graphiquement, la partie combat est du niveau des premiers jeux (et pas les meilleurs) sur Super Nes. Ce qui est assez douloureux à vivre de nos jours. Pourtant, le jeu bénéficie tout de même d’un habillage séduisant. Le début de chaque combat se fait par une très courte animation en dessin animé montrant l’entrée en scène de notre adversaire, et nous retrouvons une conclusion à la Street Fighter 2, avec deux répliques entre le vainqueur et la vaincue en lambeaux.
Et le hentai ? Hé bien, si vous jouez à la version « grand public », il n’y en aura pas, les scènes ayant apparemment fait l’objet d’un add-on. Faites donc attention à la version que vous récupérez, mais il n’y a a priori plus que la version hentai qui circule sur la toile : comme quoi, c’est bien la preuve que l’intérêt qui est resté au jeu est bien là. Après chaque manche gagnée de votre part, vous aurez une image montrant votre adversaire dénudée. Chaque combat se déroulant en deux manches, le calcul est vite fait : 2 images par combattante, 12 en tout. Inutile de dire que c’est peu, surtout que les images en question sont plutôt jolies et bien dessinées, une qualité que l’on retrouve dans les autres V.G.
A noter que le problème de la pixellisation de la censure ne se pose pas ici : que ce soit par le choix de l’angle ou un équivalent à la feuille de vigne d’Eve, on ne voit aucune partie intime des jeunes filles en question…
Dernière chose : il n’y a pas de galerie des CGs débloqués, donc si vous voulez les regarder sans tout vous retaper à chaque fois, pensez à faire des captures d’écran…

Un jeu à ne toucher que si vous êtes un vieux joueur voulant ressentir la nostalgie des jeux de baston d’il y a dix ans ou si vous êtes un collectionneur. V.G. Fighter a constitué la première pierre qui a permis à ses successeurs d’apparaître, reconnaissons lui ce mérite et laissons-le reposer en paix.

Identique à V.G Fighter : aucune.

V.G Custom est le deuxième volet de la série, précédant V.G Max de quelques mois seulement. Et contrairement à Max, quand on joue au Custom on est bien proche dans l’esprit du premier V.G, Fighter.
En effet, alors que V.G Max joue la carte de graphismes se rapprochant du dessin animé, on reste ici dans un style beaucoup plus conventionnel et réaliste, avec des personnage plus longilignes. Les coups spéciaux donnent lieu à peu d ‘effets graphiques, et pour tout dire tout semble rester assez pauvre. Oui, « semble »… En fait, je ne pourrai pas complètement me prononcer sur les graphismes, étant donné que le jeu a chez moi indubitablement un problème. Ne vous fiez pas à mes captures, elles ne représentent sûrement pas la réalité des graphismes en phase de combat.
Ceci dit, que reste-t-il ? Tout d’abord un jeu enrichi en personnages, puisqu’elles sont ici 9. Ensuite, des combats beaucoup plus rapides et nerveux que dans V.G Fighter et V.G Max, mais, contrecoup de cette rapidité par rapport à Max, on contrôle moins bien ce que l’on fait. Autant dire que pour faire des coups spéciaux, il faut s’accrocher. La musique est toujours un peu quelconque, et les voix toujours présentes. Détail qui ne sert pas à grand-chose, cette fois-ci la barre de vie est double, comme dans Metal and Lace 2.
En ce qui concerne les scènes hentaï, elles sont groupées à la fin des combats victorieux, et sont cette fois composée du nombre prodigieux de TROIS images par scène. Comme quoi, les développeurs ont dû écouter les plaintes probables des joueurs hentai du premier volet, même si pour le coup ce ne devait être que d’une oreille. Elles sont d’un style beaucoup plus proche d’un animé moderne que ne le sont celles de V.G Fighter, et toujours très agréables à l’œil.
Modes de jeu et options : - Normal Mode - Versus Mode (2 joueurs) - Practice Mode - Time Attack - Galerie des CGs débloqués

En fait, par son style, il appelle plus la comparaison avec Metal and Lace 2, comparaison qui malheureusement pour lui se fait à l’avantage de ce dernier, surtout si l’on considère les problèmes graphiques rencontrés et une instabilité certaine qui provoque des retours sous Windows. Et ça, ça fait jamais plaisir.

Inutile de dire que tout ça n’est absolument pas pratique.

Rien à dire vraiment sur ce jeu. On dirait qu'on a affaire plus à une histoire interactive que vraiment à un jeu. Les choix sont rares et l'histoire est complètement linéaire. Même si on refait le jeu on repasse par les même étapes. Les scènes Hentaï sont très variées, mais le fait de ne pas trouver une véritable trace sur une histoire quelconque enlève tout intérêt à ce soft.

Malheureusement il n'y a pas vraiment de nouveauté ou quelque chose qui le démarquerait des jeux moyens.
